Educational Resources: Sowing the Seed of the Future

Arm yourself with education and fight off the uncertain future into submission; these words quickly display the importance of education in one's life, especially in our times when knowledge is more important. This is the power of education and one must endeavor relentlessly in order to acquire it. It is one of the most important necessities of life which should not be neglected, knowledge is foremost and wisdom, the principal thing. Education is the process of learning which is not confined to closed class rooms; education is a never-ending process through interactions with the environment, society and with other individuals which will last for a lifetime.

There are many educational resources available for use today, libraries, respectable institutions and more recently various forms of media such as radio, television and the internet. With these sources of knowledge which anyone can tap into, it can be attained by anyone anywhere.

Types of Education

There are two types of education, formal and informal. It is through the combination and balance of these two types that people are able to exceed and become successful.

When someone is educated in an institution which uses a structured curriculum of learning, it is classed as formal. This is the conventional way of learning; it focuses on the use of educational resources advised by the standards imposed by the governing council for education. Starting from nursery and ending with the graduation from university, depending on how far you decide to progress, this is a very standard way of learning.

An informal perspective would include being educated outside an institution through the use of unconventional methods of learning, mainly through experience. This type uses a direct approach to things and does not involve a structured curriculum. The main educational resources used in are the environment and the society. Due to the nature of the way we learn informally, the process will typically start when you are old very young and continues throughout a person's entire life.

You cannot say that one type of education is better than the other; both have their insufficiencies which is made sufficient by each other. Knowledge not acquired in class rooms can be acquired through experience, while knowledge not acquired through experiences is acquired in class rooms. With the correct balance of formal and informal education, an unbiased, yet objective outlook is developed.

Conclusion

Education the only necessity which is not tangible, but can alter the world of anyone that has acquired it. As technology continues it's never-ending leap into the future, people who are more educated are being to see the benefits quicker. Through education, the seed of success is sown in order to make the future a little brighter than today.

Marketing For Schools - How To Build Your School's Image

Few would welcome a formal 'market' in public services, least of all a key service like yours, education. There has, of course, been a true market in independent education for very many years as individual private schools seek to attract fee-paying students. But even in publicly funded education there is a market. Both parents and students have choices to make - and you need to make sure enough of them choose you. Welcome to the world of marketing for schools!

Schools have impacts on related local markets too. Just take a look at housing for example. If you move to a new town or city and you want to know where the 'best' schools are, ask the local estate agents-- they would always tell you!

How did they form a view? Because every school emits marketing messages, whether for good or bad. The messages can be overt, as in school brochures, or subliminal, as in attitudes perceived by onlookers.

This external understanding directly impacts a school's ability (or not) to draw in students and therefore funding. Because we all want to work for a winning team it also affects a school's ability to attract and retain skilled resources, which in turn influence academic results, which affect your ability to attract students... and so on!

It is easy to make the mistake of imagining that what we know to be real is the same 'truth' that others observe. This is not so. It is perception that make a differences to those with sway over a school-- parents, potential parents and students, LEA officers, community leaders and so on.

Public perception of a school can be seriously damaged by events that take just moments to undermine what has taken months or years to create. Hopefully few experience a continual stream of situations like the school in BBC's Waterloo Road! But it can happen. Not everything goes as hoped.

Let's look at a real life story. When a new principal took charge of a very large community college not far from where I'm sitting, it had a poor local track record. He examined the application forms for the intake two years previously. He was shocked to find the school was first selection in only 46 % of cases, regardless of having no local competitors. A pupil would have to journey at least 10 miles to find another secondary school. As the marketing people express it they were 'voting with their feet'. He took confident action to address this. As a result, now his school, with over 2,500 students, is over-subscribed. It has not happened by chance.

A school's perception by the public can be managed, changed or enhanced in many ways. A substantial part of this can be achieved by what businesses call 'marketing communications'. This is most definitely not the 'spin' with which we are all so heartily disillusioned. No, the communications must be underpinned with substance or you will be caught out and worse yet will follow.

Sustained improvement in perception depends on many elements. A school is no different from any other organisation in this regard.

Can communications with the school's stakeholders-- and there are many-- be improved? Do your staff members give out good news about the school? Are they provided with the good news to talk to others about? Is it practical to enrich the national curriculum with your own angle in some way and thereby add value to a scholar's experience? Can the skills and experience of the schoolteachers be delivered in new and interesting ways that make the school stand out from the crowd? How do you find out what the parents need from the school so that they sing your praises too?

Each and every school needs a marketing plan to address these points. These are just some of the features that need to go in!

Carefully constructed, evidenced by some simple research, with meaningful consultation and involvement of school staff and others, a School Marketing Plan makes a real and positive contribution to a school's success. It provides a common purpose in which all school members can be engaged.

It brings together a range of actions that otherwise risk being missed or, sometimes worse, take place in an uncoordinated and conflicting manner. Invariably a piecemeal approach of this nature results in a mix of subliminal marketing messages-- often diluting the main message or worse, being seen as confused and negative in nature. It is a key element when you plan to build a successful school.

Constructing a School Marketing Plan may not be easy first time round but specialist guidance and templates are available to simplify the task-- even for those who have never done it before. A structured approach identifies clearly what the objectives are. It allows staff and others to see their role in fulfilling the plan. These proven tools can be used again and again to ensure the school's plan remains relative and supportive, no matter how the education environment changes.

How A Boarding School Can Be A Positive Influence

Some people look down at boarding schools but the truth is other wise. Parents are slowly realizing the many benefits of putting their children in such place. These schools focus on all round development of the children and thus help them not only excel in their studies but also in extra curricular activities.

Often parents need to make a choice between a boarding-school and a public school. And the choice can be based on different aspect for different families. The parents need to consider so many things like financial resources, needs, and priorities that may differ from family to family. But over and above, boarding-school score much higher than a public school.

To begin with, the size of the class is much smaller in a boarding school. And due to the smaller class size, the students get much more personal attention and chances are that he will get a complete positive atmosphere for his growth and development. Such one-on-one attention allows students to develop specialized study habits and better focus while learning. But if you look at the public schools they often have a very big class size that can go up to 30 or even more. Thus it ensures personal attention for every student studying there.

Another big benefit is the qualified and experienced staff. Most of the teachers there are completely dedicated to their students. As the class size is already small, it does not take much effort for the teachers and student to develop special bonds with each other. This too acts as a good foundation for a great education.

As they do not have to face any financial limitations, there are no cut backs and the students are given the best opportunities in the field of learning. You will find these schools offering diverse programs like sports, art, yoga, equine programs, music, and many other outdoor activities like water rafting or rock climbing. Students of other schools definitely miss out on such opportunities. This clearly shows that students get a well-rounded education that is not possible in public schools.

Another advantage is that they nurture family bonds and focus on family relations. Parents are encouraged to get involved and have a complete say in their child's education. They attend meetings, participate in outings with their kids, go on adventure trips. All these develop stronger skills in the home and the child feels very close to his or her parents' despite remaining away from them in a boarding school. The family interaction goes along way in developing new skills and strategies among both parent and their children that strengthen the family bond and improve functioning at home.

To wrap up, one can clearly see the many advantages of putting your child in this place, but keep in mind that not all schools are made equal. So make some effort and put your child only in the best boarding school.

Education Case Study - Tickling Robots Are All The Rage

Well, it's certainly difficult to get children to behave these days. In fact, there doesn't seem to be much discipline at home, and it is quite self evident in the classroom at school. The other day, I was talking to a schoolteacher at Starbucks, and she noted that if she disciplined the kids too much, she could lose her job. Further, the school principal and the administration rarely backed the teacher up over parent's complaints. "When a child comes home and cries to their mother, often their mother will go marching down to the school and read the riot act to the principal," she told me.

As we were talking about this, we started brainstorming on ways to return discipline in the classroom. In my day they would just take a ruler and slap your hand, and wow does that would hurt! I can remember in elementary school, they would just smack you, so everyone pretty much decided to behave from then on out. Well, since we can't discipline the kids, maybe we can tickle them to death, if they don't behave.

Therefore, I propose tickling Robots, and I believe a startup company should produce one of these robots, and it would be all the rage on YouTube, and they would sell a ton of them.

Of course, you couldn't use them in the schools right away, as kids might wet their pants and that could be a problem, so you'd have to work out the tickling intensity level first. But wealthy parents could use it at home at first to discipline their kids, and that's a start.

Indeed, can you imagine having a tickling robot at your next party, wouldn't that be all the rage? What if you are playing cards, and rather than playing for money, when someone lost they got tickled. And you can have different levels of tickling, and different time periods. Now then, robotic ticklers makes sense, so don't laugh, well at least if you can stand it, then don't laugh.

The whole concept this makes me smile really, how about you?

You see, we have to do something to prevent this bad behavior in our society, and a tickling robot could do the trick. How would it work you ask? Well, it would probably be similar to an electric chair, where you strap the person in where they can't move, and the robot goes in with a feather duster type attachment, and a few rubbery protrusion apparatuses on the side. And depending on the level and setting, then it would go to town, and record the voice of the person laughing, to make sure it was within the proper range.

It would tickle them just short of torture, and speaking of torturing, wouldn't this be great to use on the terrorists? We could even keep the CIA tapes without destroying them. That would make the terrorists stop, and tell us all we need to know. I bet John McCain would love this one, hopefully you will send him this article, and also pass it on to all your friends, because we need this technology now. Please consider all this and think on it.
